About Lambda Pi Eta at Jackson State University
MU XI is Jackson State University’s Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta. Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association. Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle described in Rhetoric as the three ingredients of persuasion: logos (Lambda) meaning logic, pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics.
As an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), Lambda Pi Eta has nearly 600 active chapters at colleges and universities worldwide. Lambda Pi Eta was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas. Lambda Pi Eta became a part of the National Communication Association in 1988, and the official honor society of the NCA in July 1995. Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association.

How to Join
Lambda Pi Eta
If you are a student at Jackson State University and are majoring in Speech Communication, Theater, Mass Communication or Communicative Disorders we would love to talk to you about becoming a member. Please call Laura McDavitt at 662-312-7149 or email me at laura.k.mcdavitt@jsums.edu to get an application or just ask questions. You can also come see us in Rose McCoy Auditorium on the Jackson State University campus.
If your GPA isn't as high as you would like and want help so you can become a member we would love to mentor you to help you reach your goals.
Membership Requirements
for Lambda Pi Eta at Jackson State Univeresity
1. Must have completed 60 semester credit-hours (90 quarter credit-hours), have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for all courses taken, and have at least a 3.5 GPA for all communication studies courses;
2. Must have completed the equivalent of 12 semester credit hours in communication studies and currently be enrolled as a student in good standing, as determined by the institution's policies. Junior membership are available for those interested in joining but have less than the required 12 semester credit hours. Full membership will be achieved once all requirements of membership are met.
3. Undergraduates who are elected shall rank not lower than the highest thirty-five percent of their class in general scholarship. The cumulative scholastic record of the student as interpreted by the institution where membership is to be conferred shall be the basis for computing scholastic eligibility for the purpose of classification in ranks. In addition, students should display commitment to the discipline of communication.
4. All persons considered for membership shall exhibit high standards of personal and professional character and shall support the purposes of the honor society.
